MARRIAGE OF PROMINENT CITIZENS

MR. C. FONG AND MISS VIOLET CHONG

The marriage of Mr. Charles Fong and Miss Violet Chong was celebrated on Saturday in Darwin.

Following a civil ceremony officiated by the Registrar (Mr. Nicholls) the Chinese marriage ceremony was performed in Fong Yuen Kee's store.

In the evening a reception celebrating the wedding was given by Mr. and Mrs. Albert Fong at their home in Mitchell Street.

Nearly 100 guests attended the reception.

Many exotic oriental foods served at the reception were especially importef for the occasion from China.

Australian guests were introduced for the first time to Chínese soup made of birds' nests. Bamboo shoots and delicately flavoured pickled nuts with beche de mer and abalone provided delightful contrast to western foods.

The bride and groom who arc both Australian born first met tn China where Mr. Fong was engaged in business. Mrs. Fong was a student at a Chinese University when she first met her husband. Upon his return to Australia Mr. Fong was engaged in business in Wesouth.

He was for some time the secretary of the Chinese National Salvation Association in Rockhampton where he met many of the Queensland Labour leaders.

He is the official Chinese censor in thc Censor's office Darwin.
