THE SHOOTING OF CHONG FONG.

DEATH OF CHONG FONG A MYSTERIOUS INCIDENT.

SYDNEY, March 17. Chong Fong, a Chinese gardener, was found dead in the chinese gardens at North Rooks, Paramatta, with a bullet wound in the heart and lung. There ware about 12 other Chinese employed on the place, but all were working in different parta of the garden. Chong Fong was seen at work at 11 a.m. and just before noon one of the other Chinese found him lying dead. No weapon, was found near him. The bullet was from a pea rifle.

§ydney»March 17. Further particulars concerning the death of Chong Fong near Parramatta show that a bullet was found embedded in the tissues of the back, having penetrated the heart. The bullet was such as might have been fired from a pea-rifle. Other Chinese in the place state that two lads were in the garden stealing melons, and that Fong chased them with a fork. He was gaining on them, when one of them turned and fired At the Parramatta Police Court this morning, Richard Arthur Bowerman (l8), carpenter, and John Maitland White (18), plasterer, were charged on suspicion with wilfully shooting and slaying Chong Fong.
